A dating app played as a tournament

How it works

Who hosts, who plays, how a bracket runs, and how everyone is kept safe.

01The rounds

Every tournament is a knockout.

Players answer a challenge on video. Hosts pick who goes through. Repeat until one player is left.

  1. 01

    A host sets a challenge

Start a tournament, pick a size and write the first challenge. Friends can join you as co-hosts.

  2. 02

    Players answer on video

Players join from the Play feed and record their first answer on the spot. Each round brings a new challenge and a timer.

  3. 03

    Hosts pick, head to head

Players are paired off. Each host watches both videos and picks one to go through. The group chat is for arguing about it.

  4. 04

    The winner gets the chat

After the final round, the last player standing gets a chat with the host who picked them.

02Hosts and players

Sit on the tower, or climb it.

The host is the princess at the top of the tower. The players are the knights at the bottom. You can be either, in as many tournaments as you like.

Bring your friends and judge together.

  1. Pick a preset, write a title and the first challenge, and go live.
  2. Invite friends as co-hosts. You judge together in a private group chat.
  3. Watch each video as often as you like, then pick one player from each pair.
  4. Set the next challenge each round, and choose how long players get, from instant to three days.

Player

Win them over on video.

  1. Find a tournament on the Play feed and see who’s hosting before you join.
  2. Join by answering the first challenge on the spot.
  3. Each round brings a new prompt. Record one video before your timer runs out.
  4. You see the hosts but never the other players. If any host picks you, you’re through.
03The bracket

Each host keeps their own bracket.

Hosts don’t vote, and they don’t have to agree. Mia has judged her bracket. Now judge yours.

Mia’s bracket The players Your bracket
A knockout bracket of eight players over three rounds. One player’s path to the final is traced in gold.

Pick one knight from each pair to judge your bracket.

votes taken

Each host picks on their own. Nobody has to agree and nobody gets outvoted.

1

pick to go through

A player goes through if at least one host picks them. When hosts split, both players go on.

1

winner per host

Each host only sees the players they kept, so by the final every host has a winner of their own.

04Tournaments

Pick a size and go.

Hosts start from a preset, then add a title, a description and the age range they’d like to meet.

Time to answer

The first challenge in every tournament is instant. You answer it as you join.

After the first round, players have a day to open each new prompt. The timer starts when they do.

05Safety

Judged on video, kept safe.

Putting yourself forward on camera takes nerve. These rules apply to every tournament.

01

Adults only

Everyone on Joust is 18 or over. We check ages when you sign up.

02

Videos checked first

Every video is screened on your phone before it uploads. Explicit content never leaves your device.

03

Report and block

Report any video, message or tournament from inside the app. Once you block someone, you won’t meet them in a tournament again.
