Community guidelines
On Joust, people put themselves forward on video to be judged. These guidelines are part of our Terms of Use. Break them and we may remove your content or ban your account.
Joust uses image recognition software to screen for non-consensual inappropriate content, and we have a strict banning policy for anyone who shares it.
For everyone
- Use real, recent photos where your face is visible, and keep to one account.
- Everyone on Joust is 18 or over. No one under 18 may appear in any video.
- Never share intimate images of anyone without their consent. Explicit nudity is screened out before it uploads.
- Don’t screenshot, record or share anyone’s videos or messages outside the app.
- Only film people who have said yes, and never film anyone under 18.
- Don’t advertise, ask for money, or put contact or payment details in a video.
For hosts
- Players can’t see the group chat, but anything said there can be reported and acted on.
- Challenges can be about anything, as long as it’s legal and doesn’t ask players for their contact details.
For players
- You can leave a tournament at any time.
- Don’t record while driving to beat the timer.
- Each host judges differently, and one pick is all it takes to go through. A knockout says something about one video.
Safety tips
Before you meet
- Keep the conversation in Joust until you know someone better. It’s easier to report from there.
- Never send money or share financial information, however good the reason sounds.
- Video call before you meet, and trust your instincts if something doesn’t add up.
When you meet
- Meet somewhere public, and tell a friend where you’ll be and who with.
- Get yourself there and back, so you can leave whenever you like.
- Keep an eye on your drink and your belongings.
Protect your information
- Don’t share your home address, workplace or daily routine until you trust someone.
- Watch what’s in the background of your videos: street signs, house numbers, your office.
JOUST DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS OR SCREENINGS ON ITS MEMBERS, AND DOES NOT VERIFY THE IDENTITY OF ITS MEMBERS.
Reporting and blocking
You can report any video, profile, message, challenge or tournament from inside the app. Reports are confidential: we never tell the person you reported who reported them. You can block anyone, and you won’t be put in a tournament with them again.
We review reports and may remove content, warn, suspend or ban the account. Content involving the abuse of a child, or terrorist content, leads to an immediate ban and may be reported to the police.
If an intimate image of you has been shared without your consent, including a fake or AI-made one, you can ask us to remove it even if you don’t use Joust. We remove it within 48 hours of a valid request. See how to ask.
If you’re in danger, call 999 in the UK or 911 in the US.
